Tips for media contact

Do you have an issue you would like to highlight in the media? We at the Norwegian Occupational Safety and Health Association work a lot with visibility, and you as shop stewards can also contribute to this.

If you want a case covered in the media, you have two options: Either contact the media and act as a spokesperson yourself or tip us off at the secretariat so that we can take it further.

We know that many transport companies have strict contracts for media appearances, and have therefore put together some tips that may be useful to consider when contacting the media.

  1. Write down the main points of the issue you want to talk about.
  2. We recommend that you always talk to the company before going to the media. If you have special reasons for not doing this, we would like you to contact us at the secretariat so that we can see if we can find a solution together. This is to avoid that you as a shop steward have problems afterwards.
  3. Most newspapers have a tip email address where you can send news tips, but it can often be worthwhile to call, for example, the shift manager in advance to present the case. Then use the main points you have already written down.
  4. Remember that the journalist has the right to write everything you have said, so be careful with your statements. If you speak on behalf of YTF, it is very important to avoid racist and otherwise offensive statements.

If you would like input on reader contributions or have any other questions regarding media coverage, please contact us at post@ytf.no .
