Sickness benefit when you turn 67 and 70

When you turn 67, your right to sickness benefit changes. You retain your right, but it is limited in time. After turning 67, you are only entitled to up to 60 days of sickness benefit from NAV. The employer period of 16 calendar days is added. This means that if you are sick for more than 16 calendar days + 60 days of sickness benefit, you are no longer entitled to sickness benefit.

After the age of 67, there is also a higher income limit for being entitled to sickness benefit. If you earn less than 2 G, you are not entitled to sickness benefit from NAV. As of 2 June 2025, 2G is 260,320. The amount is adjusted annually with a later entry point for calculating the minimum income.

When you turn 70, the right to sickness benefits ceases completely. This applies to both sickness benefits from your employer and from NAV. This means that if you become ill after turning 70, there is no scheme that pays sickness benefits for your absence. Even though you still have the right to stay in your job until you turn 72, in the period between 70 and 72 you will work without being covered by sickness benefits. You should still use self-reporting or sick leave to document absence, but NAV will not have reports after turning 70.

Unemployment benefits in the event of unemployment or layoff after you turn 67.

The right to unemployment benefits ends at the age of 67. NAV will only pay unemployment benefits until the end of the month in which you turn 67. If you lose your job or are laid off after this time, you will not be entitled to unemployment benefits. This applies even if you are 100% unemployed or laid off.
