There could be a strike among food distributors – store shelves could be empty

Yrkestrafikkforbundet announces a strike in connection with the mediation on the Wholesale Agreement. If the parties do not reach an agreement at the Norwegian Mediator, employees at Asko, which supplies food to Norgesgruppen, may be affected by a strike.

The mediation between the employee organizations and Virke is scheduled for June 17 and 18 at the National Ombudsman.

YTF is now warning that 21 drivers may be called out on strike if mediation fails. The strike applies to members at Asko Oslo and Asko Molde.

Total 21 YTF members are participating in the first strike. YTF has 226 members on the agreement.

The wholesale agreement covers employees in distribution and transport throughout the country. A strike could therefore have an impact on the flow of goods. How severely it will affect depends on the employer's willingness to meet our demands.

– We are going to mediation to find a solution. But the employer side must move. Our members are asking for a salary settlement that is noticeable, and for financial security when they get sick or go on leave, says Josefine Wærstad, negotiation leader in YTF .

Dispute over salary and advance payment

YTF negotiated together with Parat and in parallel with Fellesforbundet. Negotiations with Virke started on Thursday 7 May and were broken off on Friday 8 May.

The dispute is particularly about finances and the advance payment of sick, nursing and parental benefits.

YTF has demanded real wage growth, better payouts for bonuses and higher bonuses for trade certificates that apply to work in warehouses and transport. The union has also demanded that the employer advance sick, nursing and parental benefits.

– These are not unreasonable demands. It's about pay for the work done, and about people not being left without predictable income when they get sick or have to stay home with children, says Wærstad.

Can affect the flow of goods

YTF emphasizes that a possible strike is not the goal. The goal is an agreement with a wage settlement that members can vouch for, and a system for advance payments that provides security when income could otherwise stop.

– Our members work in a part of working life where delays are quickly noticed and have great significance for the population. That is precisely why the employer side should use mediation to find a solution, says Wærstad.

The solution lies with Virke

If the parties do not reach an agreement within the deadline set by the Ombudsman, there may be a strike from June 19.

Members who are affected by a possible strike will be notified by YTF Everyone else shows up for work as normal.

– No one wants a strike. But then Virke must meet our most important demands. The solution lies with the employer side, says Josefine Wærstad.
