Open days create good jobs

Creating activity in the workplace doesn't have to be complicated. A barbecue, a pot of coffee in the break room, or some simple refreshments can be enough to bring members and colleagues together for good conversations. Such gatherings strengthen the community, provide valuable input, and contribute to member care and recruitment.

Small measures with big impact

Many shop stewards may think that arranging something in the workplace requires a lot of planning. Our experience is that it often takes less than you think.

A barbecue, a coffee pot or some simple serving can be enough to bring members and colleagues together for good conversations.

Such gatherings provide a natural opportunity to:

When people see that the union is present and available, it also becomes easier to contact them when they need help or advice.

Recruitment is about relationships

Most people who join a union do so because someone they trust has taken the time to talk to them.

That's why open days and activities at the workplace are also good arenas for recruiting. Not because someone is greeted with an application form right away, but because good conversations build trust.

When shop stewards are visible and accessible, it becomes easier to talk about the benefits of membership and show what YTF actually does for members every single day.

Often it's the small conversations that make the biggest difference.

You don't have to do it alone.

You don't have to do everything alone. YTF Centrally, we are happy to contribute when local elected officials want to create activity in the workplace, both at professional meetings and at social gatherings.

We can provide materials, information and good humor, and together create a pleasant meeting place for members and colleagues. Experience shows that such days create engagement, strengthen unity and provide good opportunities for both member care and recruitment.

The goal is simple: More good conversations, stronger communities, and more people opening their eyes to the value of being organized.
