The Norwegian Workers' Traffic Union has now taken an important step to strengthen engagement among young members. On Monday, January 20, the newly established youth committee, YTF Ung, met for the very first time at YTF's offices in Oslo.

The summary is created using artificial intelligence (AI)
Both permanent members and alternate members attended the meeting, and there was broad agreement on one thing: Young people in the transport professions should be seen, heard and taken seriously in the union.
YTF Ung is an advisory committee established by the federation board. The committee will contribute perspectives and input from members under the age of 35, and highlight issues that are important early in working life.
At the first meeting, there was a broad discussion about the role the committee should have, and how YTF Ung can make a real difference. The ambition is to make the union more visible and relevant to young workers, and to explain what YTF is and does, in language that is relevant.

At the first meeting, the committee got to know each other, discussed expectations and began work on specifying which issues YTF Ung will prioritize going forward. The committee will work closely with the administration and report regularly to the federation board.
YTF Ung is not a separate local association or a separate membership scheme, but a committee that aims to strengthen YTF by highlighting young members' experiences, needs and suggestions.
The committee agreed on four main themes that will characterize the work going forward: recruitment and visibility, competence and continuing education, safety at work and mental health, and community.
Many young people work alone and experience a lonely working day. That is why YTF Ung wants to both raise mental health as a topic and contribute to more meeting places, where young people can get to know each other, share experiences and build networks.
Work on concrete plans began at the first meeting. YTF Ung will, among other things, work towards more targeted visibility towards young people, both digitally and out where people are. School visits, job fairs and events in the transport sector are important arenas for meeting future colleagues.
The committee also wants to contribute to more content aimed at young people on social media, and to make it easier to understand when and how to use shop stewards and the union in working life.
YTF Ung will meet regularly throughout the year and work closely with the administration and the federation board. At the same time, the committee is completely dependent on input from young members around the country.
If you have thoughts, experiences or suggestions on what YTF should work on more for young people in the transport professions, YTF Ung would love to hear from you.

YTF Ung is now underway, and this is just the start of the work to strengthen young voices in the Norwegian Occupational Safety and Health Association.
