Bus industry agreement
The bus industry agreement operates with two main rates for work at unfavorable times: 25 and 40 percent.
Which supplement is triggered depends on when the work is performed:
- Monday–Friday 7:00 PM–6:00 AM: 25 percent surcharge
- Monday–Saturday 1:30–4:30 a.m.: 40 percent surcharge
- Saturday 6:00 AM–3:00 PM: 25 percent surcharge
- Saturday 3:00 PM – Sunday 12:00 AM: 40 percent surcharge
Supplement for work on holidays and holiday evenings
If you drive on public holidays, you will receive a 100 percent surcharge. This applies to the following days:
- New Year's Day, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Monday and May 17
- Ascension Day, Pentecost and Boxing Day
- After 3:00 PM on Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, Easter Eve and Whitsun Eve
In addition, a special rule applies for Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve after 6:00 p.m. You are then entitled to a 100 percent supplement for unfavorable working hours and a 100 percent overtime supplement.
Additions on top of additions?
Inconvenience allowance and overtime allowance shall not be combined, unless this is specifically agreed.
In practice, this means that the employee receives the higher of the two allowances, and that the inconvenience allowance is waived if the employee is entitled to overtime.
The exception, as mentioned, is the evening hours on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve after 6:00 PM.
The Goods Agreement
100 percent additional
Freight drivers are entitled to a 100 percent supplement for work on the following days:
- New Year's Day
- Maundy Thursday and Good Friday
- and Easter Monday
- May and May 17
- Ascension Day
- and Pentecost
- and Boxing Day
- After 3:00 PM on Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, Easter Eve and Whitsun Eve
25 percent surcharge in the evening and night
For work between 7:00 PM and 6:00 AM, you will receive an inconvenience allowance of 25 percent of your regular hourly wage.
This applies to all days, as long as a 100 percent public holiday supplement is not triggered at the same time.
40 percent extra on the weekend
For work from Saturday 3:00 PM to Sunday 12:00 AM, you are entitled to a 40 percent supplement. This is an important compensation for the fact that weekend work affects social life and leisure time.
Please note that you cannot receive both 100 percent and 25 percent and 40 percent supplements for the same working hour.
If you work on a public holiday or holiday eve with 100 percent supplement, the lower rates are waived.
What if you don't get paid correctly?
To ensure correct payment, we recommend checking your payslip. If you are in doubt about whether you are receiving the correct payment, we recommend contacting your union representative.
Economic importance
The allowances for working at unfavorable times constitute a significant part of the income for many bus drivers.
A single weekend shift per month with a 40 percent surcharge can amount to several thousand kroner over the course of the year.
When the profession requires work at times when others have time off, it is right that one receives compensation for this.
