YTF supports stricter enforcement of traffic rules for foreign operators

Yrkestrafikkforbundet has submitted a consultation response to a proposal for amendments to the regulations on the use of vehicles, which follow up on EU Directive 2015/413 on cross-border enforcement of road traffic rules. The association believes that the proposal is an important contribution to increased road safety and fairer enforcement of the regulations.

YTF is particularly positive about measures that make it easier to identify foreign drivers who break traffic rules in Norway. The association also supports that foreign vehicle owners should no longer be able to avoid reactions by hiding behind national borders.

Furthermore, the importance of better information exchange between countries through the EUCARIS collaboration is highlighted. This will give authorities better access to necessary information and strengthen enforcement of regulations across borders.

YTF stresses that violations of the law must have consequences, regardless of nationality. The association believes it is crucial that the rules are also enforced against foreign companies operating in Norway, so that the conditions of competition become fairer.

Against this background, supports Yrkestrafikkforbundet that Norway implements the directive, and that the Norwegian Public Roads Administration is given the role of national contact point for the exchange of information. This will contribute to better control, increased traffic safety and more equal conditions of competition in the transport industry.
