The Postal Committee has proposed to discontinue the obligation for mailbox distribution of addressed letter mail up to 2 kg and replace this with collection at a post office.
Yrkestrafikkforbundet is very concerned about the proposal. The professional magazine is a central information channel and is sent six times a year to 13,300 members. Many live in rural areas or work shifts, and for them, mail in their own mailbox is crucial for access to information.
YTF points out that the postal committee recognizes the need for mailbox distribution of newspapers, but does not refer to member magazines and trade publications in the same way. The association believes that member magazines must be treated equally to newspapers.
YTF continues to support mailbox distribution of addressed letters up to 2 kg. If the scheme is changed, it must be done gradually with a transition period of at least five years. The association also supports a solution with a reduced distribution frequency, for example two to three days a week.
If tendering schemes for newspaper distribution are introduced, trade union newspapers must be included in these.
