– We see that many companies have far more temporary workers than is necessary to handle peaks in production. We have several shop stewards who have done a formidable job to ensure that the company uses permanent employment to the greatest extent possible. The lawyers in Yrkestrafikkforbundet helps with the processes and takes on cases for members where there are no elected representatives who can help, says Træland.

Too much temporary work in warehouses

Lawyer Træland is surprised by how many temporary employees there are at the various warehouses.

– The company cannot use as many temporary workers as they want. The main rule is that people should be permanent employees. They must be able to justify why it is necessary to have so many temporary workers. We see that they have problems with that when we start asking questions, says Træland.

Federation leader in Yrkestrafikkforbundet Jim Klungnes is happy that YTF can help clean up the industry.

– We have brought legal cases on behalf of members and have had our views fully upheld. It is clear that it is difficult for individuals to claim their rights when they are hired temporary workers, but with Yrkestrafikkforbundet "You have both shop stewards and lawyers behind you to lean on," says Klungnes.

More and more members

Yrkestrafikkforbundet is constantly increasing its membership, and many warehouse employees have chosen to join in recent years. Jim Klungnes welcomes both permanent employees and temporary workers.

– In the past, temporary workers have waited to join the union until they have become permanent employees. I believe that it is the temporary workers who need us the most. It is difficult to stand up for your demands if you are alone and without a fixed salary. Many who are thrown out of the company do not dare to take the case further because they fear that it will cost too much or do not know their rights. When you are a member with us, we know the legislation and can take the case further for you, concludes Klungnes.
